Its in Florida.

Step one of my plan: I call this step…. STEP ONE

I’m flying to Florida next Thursday night. I’ll spend Friday changing the oils, battery, intake gaskets, petcock filter, bleeding brakes, cleaning a carburetor, inspecting wheel bearings, etc. I will not be changing the front tire, handlebars, or fork seals as those items will wait until I’m home. I will not drop/lose/break any parts and will remain on schedule for subsection B of STEP ONE (below).

STEP ONE; Subsection B- Get this bitch home
MapQuest tells me if I leave Tampa at 3:00am on Saturday, I will be in my driveway at 11:59pm Saturday night. 18hrs. I think I can beat that.
Anyway, I will have some tools and stuff, and a phone.

Once home, I will commence STEP TWO
I call this- STEP TWO

I'm keeping the paint and changing some other stuff. Imagine the bike below having a really ugly burgundy paintjob. I mean, ugly like someone ate too many frosted cupcakes and drank too much Merlot at the same time and puked on the sheetmetal. Kind of like that.

Plan is to powdercoat just about all of the chrome and aluminum as Florida has not been nice to it (and I don’t do “shiny”)- lower fork legs, triple trees, tall risers, sportster handlebars, rocker box’s, fender struts, etc. will all be black. I hope that calms down the paint a little bit. I hope to purchase a similar seat and exhaust at some point this summer and start putting miles on it. I like STEP TWO.

In a couple of years (or months, as I’m rather impatient) I will conclude with STEP THREE
I Call this step ……STRIKE THREE.

The bike will be completely rebuilt as an FXRT, including fairing, lowers, stereo, detachable bags, etc. This will become my highway cruise missle- All business, and very, very fast.
Chances are it will be all black, or silver, or gray- like everything else I own.

There. I hope that satisfies your curiosity for now.

I made it. Took 19 hours, 1285 miles. Serious storms in Atlanta and Cinci left me wet and cold most the day. TN is beautiful. Bike ran good for the most part. Ign is cutting out in the rain, but she cruised 80-85 all day. I like my new motorcycle.

My idea to "keep the color for now", failed. I couldn't take it. Bike is in 99 peices and the tins are going to the painter this weekend. That didn't take long

Hey, I can see pictures now! :thumb:

You kicked my records ass. I laid down 1058 in 18 hours on my way to CO in 2012.

Sweet ride though. I dig the all black bike in step two. Not sure about the fairing, but understand its a purpose driven sacrifice to style points. Plus i ride a BMW now, so who the fuck am I to chime in on style.

Still living and working in the Ann Arbor area. Liquidated all my jeep parts about 2 years ago, aside from a 4 liter and a bin of misc bullshit. You still in Livonia?

Nope, I'm in Howell now.

Bike is done. Just brought it back to life last night. Game on!
