As long as the shaft isn't busted inside, and all of the balls are whole, with no little metal bits inside the box, then yes, you can just replace the cap. Make sure to seat the snap ring back into the groove really good, because if you don't, it will just blow right back off, first full lock right hand turn you make.

It almost looks more like a wear hole in the cap than a blow out. Is there something in front of it thats rubbing?

the chunk that broke out has not marks on it at all. and there isnt any metal in there. Im wondering if it was just a bad casting.

The end plug is not cast, its stamped steel. At least, they USED to be, I can't be sure what they build into Mexican Chevies these days.

Are the hydraualics shared between the truck and the plow system? I can't imagine the end just blowing off, unless you hooked up hydro steering and crossed lines. Seen it done.

Get an older stamped steel end plug, and a tight fitting snap ring.
