Saw a 95 6.5 diesel chevy on the side of the road this weekend. 215,000 miles, clean body, rusty doors, 4wd. Truck looked to be in decent shape, started up a little rough but otherwise idled fine, the dude who owned the truck wasn't there so I could actually drive it. $3,000 worth it for a cheap tow rig? diesel more trouble than its worth at that point?

ya, I'd stick to a gas engine in that vintage... the sweet spot for diesels are 97-2006, anything outside that and a gas is the better choice.

I'm not sure what the spec's are on that engine but I'm guessing a 5.7L like primels has more hp and torque... just at different spots.

I'm definitely not set on a diesel, I just throught the truck seemed like a good deal, and was pretty clean, figured if it puked a motor I could always toss a gasser in it anyway. Unless he comes down on price I'll keep looking.

The 6.5 chevy diesels were some glow plug busting mofo's. Expensive repair, but common failure.
