14 BOLT, buts its a wider 14bolt then whats in your older truck. They have to styles of 14bolt, the housing are wider on the newer trucks by like 3in

the diesel, dually and 8.1L (higher GVWR) versions got the 11.5" ring gear axle that is still a "corporate 14 bolt" but it is made by AAM... it looks different than the standard 10.5" ring gear model found in the 6.0L versions that everyone is used to seeing as a "14 bolt" but those too are made by AAM and are a newer version of the original 14 bolt axle in most jeeps and BDMT's now.

not sure if the new and old 10.5" ring gear models take the same gears or what though... I never got that deep into it.

i have two options for this truck

put wheel spacers on to make it a dually or put a dually rear end under it?

im guessing the spacer would carry as much weight as a dually axle and i would have premature bearing failure

AAM 1050 or something?

Find a dually, I would think dually spacers deal would also lead to premature bearing wear.

Go to form spec and see whats laying around, lots of heavy duty dump truck axles used to be just hanging out up there...more beef then you'd ever need and you could prolly have one for free.

a wheel spacer isnt going to accelerate bearing wear... since the tires/wheels have such a deep dish to them the 2 bearings are still towards the center of the contact patch of the 2 tires... it doesnt matter what happens between where the load is at and where the bearings are, just as long as they are close to in line you wont see any issues. a dually adapter is nothing more than a spacer anyway, is just moves the wheel flange outward on the bearing races. if you do use a wheel spacer make sure you use steel and high quality studs and lock tite.

wheel spacers will be as much work/money to make as swapping the axle so an axle would be a little easier I think.

im going to assume in order to swith in a old housing i would need to

get a conversion joint
change the brake master
cut off then reinstall spring perches

or i could just put wheel spacers on for 400 bucks

would ya go 2-300 for one outta a late 70's mid 80's one if i can get my hands on the entire truck?

I cut one outta a simialar truck a few years back and it was a dana 70HD.

FYI,I found a cheap COMPLETE! disk conver. for a 14bolt from a vendor on pirate for $290 shipped to my door, Been on my DD for about 20,000 miles now with no problems.

Holy WTF.

Its an AAM 1150. 3rd-gen CTD Rams use the same axle. Its AAM's "Dana 80". I had one for sale for a long time.

Its about "sold last year" inches wide.

I checked my PM's on Michigan jeepers with the guy I bought them from and on Pirate. Also found the original Michigan jeepers thread. No WMS was ever posted anywhere.
