What would cause the idle to hang up on a motorcycle? It starts great, runs great, but when im coming to a stop, i pull the clutch and it holds high RPMs for while and slowly comes down to idle.

I just rejetted and cleaned the carbs because they were pretty gunked up and i thought that was the reason for the idle to hang up, but now its still doing the same shit.

sounds like the throttle cable may need lubed/replaced. Years of dragging across the same cable liner in the same place may have caused a trench to dig out.

The throttle snaps back like a champ, i already checked that. These carbs have both a butterfly valve which is controlled by the throttle cable, as well as a plunger (Or air cut valve?). When i had them apart, i closely inspected the diaphrams for holes and such, and made sure they sealed well before i reassembled them.

aparently the idle was set a wee bit high. I backed it off and the hesitation to come back to idle stopped. Now im having trouble finding a happy median between hanging idle and the idle being to low at op temp and stalling.

Bleh, I cant seem to get it right. If i turn my idle screw to far one way, the idle gets hung up. If i turn it to far the other way it stalls occasionally at stop lights once its up to operating temp

I cant find a happy median. Any suggestions?

Step up a size in idle jet size, just a touch more gas.
