I went and bought one so I could post here....

1973 Yamaha DT175. 2 stroke, old school and its cool. Needs like a complete overhaul thou! It wouldn't have been so bad except the kid I got it from tried to rebuild it himself.....so I'm missing some things, need a completely new seat (metal, foam, cover), very rusty gas tank, it does turn over, needs new chain and all new cables for brakes and clutch. Its like 1/4 disassembled, some missing bolts, some stuff just sitting on the frame, engine not bolted in, no exhaust....

Hopefully I'll be using it to scout up in Canada with. Much cheaper to strap this to the back of the XJ and go up for a long weekend of looking than to bring the yet unfinished TJ up there. The plan is to mount a GPS on the handlebars, add a spare gallon or 2 of gas on the back, fit some rear saddlebags on it and just explore. Street legal means I can go wherever, I just hope the Canadian laws are the same as the U.S.'s for motorcycles...

So, I bought a manual and I'll read up on it to see how these old things are supposed to work. I was hoping to use it this fall, but the current state of it doesn't make it seem likely!

Searched the engine number and came up as a CT bike, not a DT. I'm slowly learning about these bikes.... but at least the CT was made in '73, that opens up a whole bunch more parts, cuz I couldn't find crap for a '73 DT!!

I dragged 2 more bikes home. Between the 3, I think I can make one good one. The front bike in this picture, I think I'm going to fix up and the other ones for parts and spare parts. These 2 came with a muffler, 2 good tires and a seat, a good gas tank, etc...

Might need some brake cables and little stuff...

I have a 72 DT125. It had 6 miles on it when I got it in the late 90's. I think I have 90 miles on it now.

Welp, didn't take long, something let go in the engine! I probably should have split the case. Instead I just did the connecting rod up.

It might be something with the crank bearings....

Tried pushing it through the deep snow up in Munising in between sleeping in the woods, it didn't take a liking to the 6krpm .2mph excursions down the trail.

I just put it under a tarp outside, its about time I finished some more on the Jeep anyways...

Got lucky. The magneto??? (round thing with the magnets on it) sheared the key. It looks like the nut backed off and then it stripped out the key. But, its back together and it started up again in about 10 kicks.

I need to find a place to test out the bike and me. I also need a helmet. Bought one back in the fall, returned it, had credit, nobody wants the credit, so I'll have to go back and try to find one again that fits right.

Wife says I look like a fag on the bike. So, I need some handlebar streamers. I think it will complete the look after I put the milk crate on the back and find an old army jacket to wear.
