I have a 65hp Johnson outborad that tends to stall when i shift it into drive.

If i bring the idle up a bit manualy (pull the motor cover) runs like a champ from then on....

I am no expert to tuning 2 strokes, do i just bring up the idle? of is it the mix??

I have found on the big pig 4 cylinder evinrude/johnson engines that the air intake is fairly restricted with the cover in place. Just my observation with 75 and 90 horse motors that I have owned in the past. The problem was similar with the 35/40 horse twins, but cleaning out the jets and orifices really good helps too.

the mix screw i think your talking about is made so you can adjust idle and low speed mix on the fly for changing weather conditions. adjust the idle up and then set the mix screw as needed.
