Why not to do a powerturn in your open-bow.

I agree. He backed out of the throttle and cranked the wheel like he was going to do a powerturn, but I think he backed out just as he crested the set of waves and put the stern airborn?

But it just doesn't look that dramatic to stuff the bow like it does. Backing off the throttle without a full on power turn doesn't usually make the bow dive.

That was pretty odd. It looks like he cut the throttle and missed the wheel when he went to turn the first time but got it the second time.

The only thing that I can figure is he had a one in a million combination of bad luck.

He let off the throttle too early, should have started the turn first.

My theory is this, he let off the throttle, missed his turn, the prop slowed lifting the back of the boat combined with hitting the wave just right as he started to turn which worsened the dive as the boat bow steered.

If you look its VERY sudden when it does dive. Very odd.

I'm guessing when he backed out he went into reverse. That will dive a bow, ask me how I know.
