Is it really good to run dern near freezing water through an aluminum block? just curious.

Did you end up just getting a cast sleeve? or an aluminum?

spark knock, lean mixture, detonation? engines dont like to run below their operating temperature. automotive calibrations take all of these variables into account. I dont think caseys boat engine is that smart.

mass air flow meter, intake air temperature sensor, knock sensors O2 sensors. depending on what these sensors bring back is how the ecm modifies the base calibration to protect the engine.

Probably, yes. The motor sounds lazy, and it knows that blowing up will keep it fro having to work.

Isnt it carburated? You'll just be running way too lean at 30* to have to worry about anything else. I'm sure it will sound real crisp when you drop the hammer though. Enjoy the 12 seconds of run time.

Pour antifreese into the lake to keep it from freezing your coolant passages too.

cool water really only proposes an issue with outboards when you first take off.....the poppet valve typically opens around 2,000 RPM, if you warm it up at the dock, then pull away and hammer it that cold water running through the block can cause a cold seize, otherwise its not a huge issue.

Just after ice out on plane my boat ran at 109, this summer when the water was 50 degrees warmer adn it was 90 degrees out my boat was running at 120.
