Just about every time I took my boat out I got fucked with by the Coast Guard, they have a big presence in Saginaw and Bay City (my local waters). It got so bad that I sold my interest in boating.

And, I never ever got a single violation, even tho they tried very hard. They discovered an expired package of flares, my kid offered them the wrong ones. Handing them the right ones still took some arguing with them that I was legal. Also, remember that not removing your fire extinguisher and shaking it up at least once every 3 months can get you a violation, as the contents settle upon sitting. Give a wrong answer as to when you checked it last, you'll get tickets to the policemans ball.

Yeah, ask Justin what happened when we went out for the races. 3 people and like 10 life preservers, but nothing was "throwable"?

No sympathy from me. When I was 17 my best friend drowned when he fell out of a boat. He was a strong swimmer.

A few years ago a guy I know t-boned a gal going the wrong way on the lake & killed her.

We see stupid shit every weekend in front of our house.

Read my lips....... the day will come when there will be no alcohol allowed on boats because people can't control themselves or follow the rules.

If a Water Cop ever asks you if you have your ID and you have had a few beers, never ever, under any circumstances, no matter how good or bad the situation is going, ....

...reply with "But, of course!", as if you were about to pull some Grey Poupon out of your ass.

Most inland lakes have a 36mph speed limit unless your towing a barefooter.

Speed Limit - 55 MPH : On waters of this state..., a maximum speed limit of 55 miles per hours is established. (MCLA 324.80146(3))

that is a state-wide standard for large lakes. A lot of smaller inland lakes have set lower speedlimits, which can sometimes be found on the DNR board at the public launch points.

what speed were you running?

seems to me that saying "no high speed boating" is vague and could be disputed. Most lakes that would not allow 20 mph would have a "no wake" law.

If you were going half of the state law speed, (27 versus 55) I would say that you were not going "high speed".

Did your ticket have a speed listed?

I've never seen that. I have a copy of a sheriff's water laws & I believe it says 55 unless otherwise posted.

Hoser, what lake was this on?

yes he is on plane at 20 mph

I can run my boat on plane at 14 mph.

WhiteRhino, don't get me wrong, I havea huge problem with idiot boaters all over the place.

I use safety equipment, understand the rules of the road etc. I got pulled over yesterday running sub 50mph, just because robo cop remembered my boat.

I just hate the endless hassling when I want to go for a boat ride. I break one rule, the speed limit. I follow the rest, I think there are a lot more dangerous things being broken on the water out there.....

I have no problem with speed. In fact, I think the 55 mph law is outdated. That used to be fast.

What did he say when he pulled you over sub 50?

Just remember, if you cop an attitude with him, he'll never leave you alone.

I was talking about your asshat partner :flipoff:

You gotta admit, if it were not for you, casey and I would have had our boats impounded 10 times over already this summer, for essentially doing nothing wrong half of that time.

We have had a cottage on a lake for 24 years (21 for me), and I've only been pulled over 1 time for pulling a wakeboarder "1 hour before sundown". I calmly explained we had been waiting to wakeboard all day, but it was to choppy and busy. He said he understands because he ski's just before sundown on his lake as well, and said "Have a good night".

My dad on the otherhand has had this little O'day sailboat (technically a sailBOARD) for years and years. A few weeks ago he decides hes gunna dust it off and put it in the water and do some sailing. 5 minutes into his trip he gets pulled over for not having it registered. Aparently sometime within the last few years the law changed for sailboats, and the cop said his needed to be registered even though it is under 16" long or some shit. $120 ticket. My dad does some research into the law, and sees that sailboards are exempt, goes to court, wins.

Anyhow, thats my experience with water barneys.

Yeap, I said half that time, I don't consider speeding in a boat to be breaking the law, so that is the half. Other then that we know the rules of the road, unlike the rest of the people out there.
