Should I .......

Sell the 40's and buy some 37's, 38's or short 39's, or jack it up another 2 inches?

With the wheel spacers, I can now turn lock-to-lock, but the tires are still crashing into the cab and the box. Any more cutting up front is really coing to be a job and I cant move the axle forward any more due to a crossmember.

I don't really want to lift it anymore. Its already really tall.

Livin life on the bias ply side. All fits, no hits. 37" creepy crawlers. Ideally, I would like to lower it 3", but Im loving that nothing hits, so I'm going to wait a week before getting the torch out.

Better? I think so, but it is still really tall. I mean, I ran 37s on this thing with no lift, and I'm sitting around +7" now........... but everything clears.

I like it.

It does look a little tall, but not too bad. Probably perfect or a touch too low for the BDMT crowd.

Yes. They really are too narrow for these tires- 12.5" on a 7" rim, But I had them so I used them. They will get beadlocked eventually, which will help.

It is not running better.

It is the September '10 TREC Class "A" champion to-be, though.

The 10* advance we were seeing last night might be normal.

http://www.fullsizechevy.com/showthread ... Vortec-454

Quote:
Alright just got the Jet Dynamic Spectrum software for my 454 vortec truck (will also use it on my brothers and dads 350vortecs).

Just curious as to where to start for tuning this motor, I have been doing some reading on removing torque management, and I wanted to do simple things as far as remove speed limiter, recalibrate for different tire sizes, and delete air pump, egr from truck when I remove it physically.
Now the fun stuff, what should I do with timing? I downloaded the pcm and it looks like on the 'Main Spark Advance vs. Load vs. RPM, Open Throttle' table I am only getting 12-13 degrees timing at full throttle (105 MAP) from 2400rpm to shift point or 4500rpm. That seems absolutely ridiculous! Shouldn't these motors be closer to 36 degrees? I know my carbed 454 in my street/strip car likes 36 total advance, but that is also "60's" technology. My LT1 camaro has almost 40degrees total under full throttle. Is this because of the torque management?

Quote:
the low timing isnt caused by TM, it is the very conservative tuning that GM used on these engines. These 454's are designed to pull heavy loads and heavy loads make the engines prone to detonation. PCM tuning can wake these truck right up.

If you set your TM enable coolant temp to the max temp setting TM will never engage as the coolant temp never reaches the engagement point.
Go to
CONSTANTS>Transmission Parameters> Torque Management Coolant Temp and slide the slider bar all the way to teh right. It should max out at 151°C or well over 250°F.

This will disable TM 100%.

The 1996 454 cal. file I am looking at right now shows me a commanded max timing advance of 22°-21 from 2400-4500 rpm.

And then I look under the PE mode spark Correction Table and up to 4° of timing are added when the PCM is in PE (PowerEnrichment Mode)depending on the commanded AF ratio. The PCM is in PE mode whenever the throttle is at WOT.

You should set you PE mode delay to 0 or 1 second, stock it is set at 60 seconds.

I am using Tunercats to view and tune these files, you are using Jet, they were desigend by the same person(John at Tunercats). I dont think I can read the Jet files, but I think Jet can read Tunercat files. Not 100% though.

A thread about LT1s, but seems to be similar issue.

http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/archive ... -6172.html

Common crap they recommend:

1) fuel filter
2) dirty maf
3) carbon buildup on throttle, egr, etc.
4) vacuum leak
5) fuel injectors dirty

Where is the build thread for it? Or, are you afraid that anything documented may never be completed?

WTF am I talking about, I have had your old pile of parts for close to 2 years. It might be done before I get on nobamacare?

Big whoop - You'll just get rid of it. Will this one get finished? There needs to be a wheelable group of rigs.
