Round 1

94 yj w/3.5" lift
4.0
5 speed
231
33 swampers
stock axles.

Round 2
added a 231 w/sye and cv driveshaft got rid of the t-case drop.

Round 3
Picked up ford 8.8 rear
mini spool for Ford 8.8
3 spare dana 30's
Bought tires (36x13.5 Iroks)

That will be about it for a while. Trying to keep it cheap and simple. I do also want to add a winch and beef up the stock cage.

Round 2 pic

Grooved the tires, they are basically worth being trail spares right now. New tires on the way.

Made Huge amounts of progress last night

Installed the spool in the rear axle.

Image

Got the front axle painted up and mostly ready to swap in.

Next step, get the jeep on the trail, pull out the old axles, do the swap, trim the body for the new tires, and it will be pretty much on hold for now.

I am going to wash it one night this week.

Then I should be swapping the axles next week.

I would like to get a cage into it fairly soon also.

He has really cleaned the garage up a lot, finished the drywall, we took the original fireplace out and put a different one in that works a lot better. Other then that I don't know, the jeep still looks about the same as it has, I did notice a new rear axle sitting in there recently, not sure where he picked it up or what it was, didnt pay much attention.

A few updated pics.

Axles are pretty much ready to fall out, getting tires mounted on rims tomorrow, took a ride height picture of where the new tires will sit and a compare pic of the old 33 swamper and new 36 irok.

If the axles are ready to "fall out", why are they not out and in the scrap yard by now?

Probably should just take the fenders off now. Looks like it will save the tires the trouble of eating them to the point that they fall off :thumb:

Actual ride height and tires mounted this evening.

Whatever PSI the tire place put in them and full vehicle weight the 36 irok measures just over a 36" tire. Unscientifically of course.

Going to have to do some trimming, but I am not sure its as bad as first thought.

Did you work on the jeep, or stand around the jeep drinking. Based on your typing, I'm guessing the latter.

yes. the answer is yes, to all questions.

I buttoned up the front end.

Pulled out the rear end.

Installed the 8.8, welded on the shock mounts (I did a shitty job because I didn't pre plan very well)

I still need to do the rear brakes, rear driveshaft.

Then I made my front bumper a stubby,

also did some "flexing" I am gonna have to do a fair amount of trmming on the front, but the rears are not horrible bad.

I might be able to keep the TJ flares in the back, in the front I am either going to have to do some sort of high hood, limit the travel, or lose the fenders.

Found this under the flare.

Made a little extra room

It's kinda hack, but function won out over looks, I would like to bend some tube to follow the fender, so as hack as it is at this point it would look nice once it's tubed. IMO

On to the rear, really didnt need to trim a ton back hear, the drivers side looks better then the pass side, but whatever.

Ooops, what have we here :tonka:

That's gonna cost me some time......

That flange looks like cast iron..... Did you install the joint caps with a hammer? Maybe you cracked it?

I will have to look.

I assume tthere was some extent of axle wrap involved. THere was no wheel hop. Broke in the exact same place, as top heavy's broke. 2 minutes later. It was not a big surprise.
