I bought it today, I plan on getting it tomorrow. Plans include removing body, bending new chassis with my new bender, remove strut front end, install link pin front beam and coilovers, coilovers in the rear, reinstall body and jump it

Good luck cutting the bulkhead off and replacing the whole thing with new stuff to put a different beam up front. I hope the rounded glass is worth it.

I'm just using the body shell, rear irs, engine and trans...I'm building a tube chassis for the shell to sit on so the bulkhead wont be a problem...this will be a fun toy not a show car

Save yourself some time and money, buy a pre-made 8 point cage, they are readily available, and just weld a couple intersections together. Excellent starting point, and 5 steps ahead of the game.

Started the tear down and I almost have the body seperated from the floor pan, or I should say whats left of the floor pan. The front is off and I think the rear is too however I wont be able to test that theory until I try to lift it. There are a few odds and ends such as wires and speedo cable that need to come off before total seperation but things went alot quicker than I thought. I only had to use the heat wrench once and that was to cut a bolt.

and after all that you have to give it up to my large pile of rust as a result or working on the beast....I was impressed and I think you should be too

Progress is a beautiful thing. That's actually not that bad, rust-pile wise, I've seen worse come out of ten year old Jeeps at the shop. She's pretty clean for an old lady.

When are you going to need Howler Monkeys to lift the body?

WAIT!!!!!! STOP!!!! Before you split the floor from the body, weld some braces about 6 inches up from the front to the back of the door openings, and weld some bracing side to side across those. If you don't, you will NEVER get the doors to line up correctly again. The heater channels are wasted on that thing, and they are what hold the body together at the bottom. If you don't, you will be SORRY!!!

oh, and, you need a bulkhead to bolt that beam to. You should do long arms in the front and rear, while you got it apart. Barnum Auto Salvage 989-871-4000 has your VW parts, he has hundreds of them in his salvage yard, ask for Herman.

They're on Vassar Rd. in Millington.

I know about welding the braces I just haven done it yet...and why would I need a bulk head? The body is going to sit on a tube chassis

just to piss grant off, I did NOT weld any braces...and guess what the doors lined up just fine, I already put one on and tested it...with that being said I got some good progress done. The steel for the chassis is here, the new die for the bender is here, new disc brakes have been ordered for all four corners drilled for chevy 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern, stainless steel braided brake lines are here and various other odds and ends are here. I got the body off and moved out of the way and I should start on the chassis by this weekend. I pulled the body by myself using a cherry picker, a jack and some jack stands. I did request some help getting the floor pan out from under the body so i didnt knock it off the stands...everything came out great and hopefully I should be able to put the body back on in a couple of weeks..

today was start the frame day...I have most of it done and I just need to lay out the front suspension for ride height, castor and, wheel base and then tie it together, which I should have done tomorrow. Once the frame is done i plan on putting the body over the frame and start bending the tube for the roll cage and upper part of the chassis, as well as tie into the center rib of the stock VW chassis.
